This Page will  be dedicated to the Yolo County Rescue Chinchillas currently in the care of Chinchilla's To Go.

According to Yolo County Animal Services reports, On or around 9/30/08 102 chinchillas were rescued from poor conditions from a "hoarder/collector" in Woodland, CA.  The animals were seized from their owner when Animal Control came in an determined they were in poor condition and not being cared for properly. Many had symptoms of fungus, some severe. More were underweight, and many more had foot lesions or infections.  Approximately 9-11 chinchillas had to be put down due to their condition.

A handful of the healthier chinchillas were allowed to be adopted by vet students who were caring for the chinchillas.  If the rest of the animals were not rescued from YCAC by Wednesday October 8th, they were scheduled to be euthanized.

Debbie from Chinchillas to Go stepped up and agreed to care for the rest of the animals.  In all 87 chinchillas were picked up 10/6/08 by Chinchillas to go.  I assisted Debbie and her family in getting preparing for the arrival of the chinchillas and sorting through them when they did arrive.  I also took photos of some of them to post here to keep you all updated.

Some of you have asked how you can help.  Thank you for your offers. Debbie is accepting donations toward the care of the chinchillas.  Animal Control is trying to secure donations from Oxbow and cages from PetSmart. Some ways you can help are:

  • Toys, bedding, dust, tinactin, waterbottles, and anything else you can think is associated with chinchillas.
  • Many are on medication or need medication. Visa gift cards can help pay for these.
  • Wal-mart (or similar) gift cards for Tinactin and disinfectant supplies.
  • Donations of cash can be made by check or PayPal (chinstogo@aol.com).
  • If you would prefer to mail a check or any supplies you can mail them to:                                                                                 Debbie Heiser
    6330 Marysville Blvd.
    Rio Linda, CA 95673

Please if you send any donations email me here at christina@lovechinchillas.com with your address and when your item was shipped.  Debbie has requested this to ensure that anything sent arrives.  If it doesn't arrive she can contact you and let you know it was lost so we can try to locate it.  Address are requested so we know who to thank!!

After the chinchillas have been quaranteed for 8 weeks and determined to be healthy they will be available for adoption.  I will post the chinchillas on this site once they are available.

Okay,  Now for the pictures.  These pictures are graphic.  They may make you cry.  If you don't want to see them stop reading now.  These are just a few of the chinchillas. The numbers are what we are using for identification purposes.  We have not given names to any of them yet.

UPDATE: RIP Little Girl.  This baby girl was such a fighter.  Unfortunately she passed away 10/8/08.  At least she was warm and safe, and had a foster mom with her during her last few days. No animal should have to suffer what she did.
